Program Overview

The Renewable Energy Code Academy delivers an intensive, results-focused training program for professionals building advanced skills in wind farm design and optimization.

Led by experts who have developed and deployed modern modeling tools, the program combines engineering fundamentals, hands-on coding, and real project work to deliver skills you can apply immediately.

The program is structured into four focused modules:

MODULE 1 – DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS

  • Optimization basics and coding-based design principles

  • How engineering objectives shape optimal outcomes

Module 2 – Wind Farm Engineering

  • Flow and wake modeling – when to use which models

  • Infrastructure and cost drivers shaping optimal layouts

Module 3 – Software Mastery

  • Deep dives into TOPFARM, PyWake, and FLORIS

  • Practical workflows using open-source design tools

Module 4 – Applied Wind Farm Design

  • Real-world case studies using Youwind’s platform

  • End-to-end design exercises integrating all modules

Frequently asked questions

Is this course live or self-paced?

All sessions are live and instructor-led. The program is designed for real-time interaction, including guided walkthroughs, hands-on coding, and live Q&A with instructors.

Do I need prior experience in wind energy?

Prior experience in wind energy is helpful but not strictly required. Participants should be comfortable with technical concepts and eager to work with modeling and design tools. Professionals transitioning from adjacent fields (engineering, data, modeling) are welcome.

Do I need programming experience?

Basic familiarity with programming concepts is recommended. The course focuses on applied workflows and design intuition, not teaching programming from scratch.

Which software tools are used in the program?

Participants will work with TOPFARM, PyWake, and FLORIS, along with applied case studies using the Youwind Commercial Platform.

Can I take individual modules, or do I need to enroll in the full program?

Modules are offered à la carte. You may enroll in individual modules based on your interests and experience, or complete the full series for a comprehensive learning experience.

What is the time commitment for each module?

Each module runs for two full days. Sessions are intensive and designed to maximize hands-on learning during that time.

Will sessions be recorded?

Select sessions or materials may be made available after the course. However, the primary value of the program comes from live participation and interaction.

How is this different from university courses or generic online training?

This program focuses on practical, software-driven wind farm design workflows taught by experts actively developing and deploying the tools used in industry today. The emphasis is on skills you can apply immediately.

Build practical wind farm design skills. Apply them immediately.
